Hallelujah Project 2023
The “Hallelujah Project” brought to fruition the long-awaited full restoration of Handel’s house following the acquisition of the ground floor and basement levels. This involved returning the brick façade of the House to the state Handel would recognize, having the front door on Brook Street open to all visitors, being able to walk up Handel’s stairs to the Music Room as he and his guests did so often, and the completion of the basement kitchen, where Georgian cooking events are now scheduled. Further improvements included the first acquisitions in the recreation of Handel’s art collection, and the installation of mirrors and wall sconces as described in the inventory of the house after Handel’s death.
The building works also provided the final step (literally) in the restoration of the Hendrix flat that had been largely accomplished in 2016 in consultation with Kathy Etchingham, Hendrix’s girlfriend when he lived on Brook Street. The major building works entailed by the “Hallelujah Project” finally allowed the structural restoration of the Hendrix stairs where he and the Beatles walked and sat.
